I read a quote in a tweet by another campus minister that was supposedly said by retired MLB pitcher, Curt Schilling. “I got paid to win games not to pitch quality starts”. I think it becomes easy to live our life with our faith and spiritual life set on cruise control. It is more of trying to go out and have a “quality start” than it is to grit it out and “win games”. The lessons I am learning through support raising sometimes involves gritting out difficult “innings” and to keep pressing on for the win; not for the sake of money, but for the sake of fulfilling God’s call to be on campus, investing in the lives of college students and in the lives of our supporters. 1Corinthians 9:24-25 “Do you not know that in a race all the runners compete, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it.” Play to win.
